This annual $1,000 scholarship is awarded to an active MAACM member enrolled in the Court Executive Development Program (CEDP), the flagship program of the National Center for State Courts’ Institute for Court Management.  The scholarship shall be applied to tuition costs for Phase II, III or IV of the program.

ELIGIBILITY

1. All active members are eligible.  An active member shall be defined as a member who has paid MAACM membership dues for the most recent two years.

2. Applicants shall have already been accepted into the CEDP at the time of the application.

3. Scholarships shall not be awarded retroactively to those who have already graduated from the program.

APPLICATION

1. An application, together with a typed cover letter, shall be submitted to the MAACM President-Elect, Caroline E. Kirkpatrick, Ph.D, Director of Educational Services, Office of the Executive Secretary, Supreme Court of Virginia, 100 North 9th Street, 3rd Floor, Richmond, VA 23219 or send a fax to (804) 786-6109 by August 1, 2010.  This date takes into consideration ICM's selection process for new CEDP candidates, which is finalized by October 1.

2. In applying for the MAACM scholarship, applicants expressly authorize MAACM to contact ICM for the release of all information submitted as part of the application for admission into the CEDP process. See attached CEDP application.

SELECTION

1.The MAACM Membership Committee, co-chaired by the President-Elect and Treasurer, shall serve as the Scholarship Selection Committee.

2.The Selection Committee shall review all materials including, in particular, the CEDP Admission information, to recommend a scholarship recipient by November 15. The determination shall be approved by a majority vote of the Executive/Advisory Boards and shall be final.

3. Applicants may apply for the scholarship during Phases II, III or IV of their participation in the CEDP program.

4. Once awarded a scholarship, a recipient cannot apply for additional scholarships through this program.

5. The MAACM Treasurer shall advise ICM of the scholarship winner and make arrangements for payment of the $1,000 directly to ICM.

ANNUAL CONFERENCE PRESENTATION

Upon completion of Phase III (Court Improvement Project), scholarship recipients shall contact the chairperson of MAACM’s Professional Development Committee to structure a workshop—detailing the project—for final presentation at the next annual conference.
